Dear Editor:

A few weeks ago I was asked if I could move the tornado siren from Al’s to the top of the hill near the new county radio tower, before Apr 8. I accepted the challenge and on Friday 29, I got REMC to help with the heavy lift. In the week prior, I had Duke come and disconnect the power and I rented a lift to remove the failed batteries. Before disconnecting the power, I tested the operation. It would only rotate but no noise.

REMC came in with two construction trucks and grabbed the pole and cut it off at ground level. They loaded it on the truck and hauled it to the top of the hill. They then set the pole and then I went to work preparing to commission it. I hired an electrition to help connect the power. After replacing the batteries and applying power, there was still no noise. I had to rent another lift and clean the electrical connections in the head unit. That fixed it and it was tested on Friday April 5.

I want to thank SCIREMC for their help with the heavy lifting and professional help.
