Races begin, end May 19 at dance barn

Dances With Dirt Gnaw Bone 10K, marathon, ultra and relay races will all begin and end Saturday, May 19 at Mike’s Dance Barn, 2277 State Road 46 West.

Race day check-in opens at 5 a.m. Race starts vary by distance, from 5:45 a.m. for the 50-mile (ultra) to 9 a.m. for the 10K race.

Registration fees up to noon Thursday, May 17, range from $44 for the 10K to $94 for the 50-mile race, and $400 for the relay race with two to five participants.

All entries include a post-race barbecue bash (served from 2 to 6:30 p.m.), a custom-fit T-shirt and finisher medal. Overall awards will be given to the first male and female finisher in all distances. Age group awards will be given five deep in five-year age groups for all events.

Participants must be 16 years or older to participate in an “ultra” distance race.

Late registration at Mike’s Dance Barn will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, and will be priced as follows: 10K, $50; half-marathon, $75; full marathon, $90; 50K (ultra), $100; 50-mile (ultra), $110; relay (two to five participants), $450.

Sign up for Bantam Football, Cheer

Brown County Bantam Football and Cheer will conduct sign-ups from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, (May 21 at Sprunica Elementary, May 22 at Van Buren Elementary and May 23 at Helmsburg Elementary). Follow on Facebook for other dates and times before July.

British soccer camp coming to Deer Run Park

Brown County Parks & Recreation will offer British Soccer Camp for children ages 6 to 14 from June 11 to 15.

The camp, taught at Deer Run Park, focuses on speed/agility, juggling, passing, control, dribbling and shooting.

The half-day program, from 9 a.m. to noon, is offered in two different age groups. It costs $135 for the week and includes a ball and T-shirt. A $10 late fee applies after Friday, June 1.

Yoga variety offered at Simply Fitness

Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., offers beginner yoga at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays. The cost is $5 per 30-minute session.

Vinyasa flow yoga is taught at 6 p.m. Tuesdays for $10 per 45-minute session. Private training or yoga sessions are available for $15 per 30-minute session.

Yin/Restorative Yoga w/Annie is a 90-minute class with Annie Patrick Buechlein that starts at 6 p.m. Thursday. By reservation only, sessions cost $18 each.

Reiki, Japanese energy healing sessions, with Buechlein are available by appointment.

Disc golf league plays every Tuesday

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In May, it’s the country club.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.

Kyokushin karate training offered

Sensei David Michaelis is offering training in traditional kyokushin karate.

Classes are for students 16 and older twice a week, at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 4 p.m. Sundays.

Michaelis has trained and taught kyokushin karate for more than 35 years. Kyokushin, Japanese for “the society of the ultimate truth,” is a style of stand-up, full-contact karate. It is intended to foster humility, perseverance and nonviolence and to provide a foundation for improving physical and mental discipline.
