Three vehicles involved in crash at bridge construction

Three vehicles were involved in a crash at the State Road 46 East bridge construction site the morning of May 10.

Brianna K. Lammers, 20, of Huntingburg, told police she was driving east on 46 East near 135 South in the fog at about 7 a.m. when she came up on vehicles stopped at the light for bridge construction, according to an accident report by Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Lammers said the pavement was slicker than she thought when she tried to stop and that she attempted to turn her 1995 Chevrolet Blazer right to avoid a collision, but was unable to do so in time, the report states.

She struck the vehicle in front of her, a 2002 Lexus ES 300 driven by Joshua J. Chastain, 38, of Bedford.

Lammers said it was very foggy and she did not see the stopped vehicles until she was close to them. She told police she had been through the construction site the day before, but did not know she was as close to the site as she was, the report states.

Chastain told police he was sitting at the red light eastbound at the bridge construction when he heard tires squealing behind him. He reported seeing a fast-moving pink Blazer coming up behind him.

He said the Blazer hit the back of his vehicle, causing him to hit a 2015 Honda Accord, driven by Mark C. Lindenlaub, 58, of Nashville, in front of him.

Chastain was checked by EMS for a complaint of chest pain, but refused transport to the hospital. His vehicle was towed.

All drivers involved were wearing seat belts.
