Otis Todd

Otis Alvin Todd, 87, of Nashville, passed away Monday morning, May 14, 2018, at his son’s residence.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North in Nashville. Burial will follow in Duncan Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born Aug. 17, 1930 in Heltonville, he was one of 15 children born to Logan and Izolla (Hawkins) Todd. Otis had worked at Hamilton Cosco in Columbus, Fleetwood Excavating, Bartholomew County R.E.M.C. and finally for his son at Jack Todd Paving until he turned 80 years old. Otis was a very skilled mechanic and he also enjoyed stock car racing and hunting.
One of his passions was Thursday nights at Otis Todd’s garage jam sessions where his fellow musicians would meet to pick country and bluegrass music on guitars, fiddles and mandolins. They would draw crowds as many as 30 to 40 people to his garage. Otis’ jam sessions were once featured on WTIU Public TV. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Brown County Music Awards.

Otis is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Tracy Todd of Nashville; his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Kurt Meshberger of Columbus; four grandchildren, Darcy Callaway, Tanner Meshberger, Lauren Spiece and Betsy Firth; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred Todd, Elmer Todd, Wayne Todd; a sister, Sharon Arthur; and many relatives of his late wife, Jo Ann Leggins Todd, including his stepchildren, Mel Leggins, Mike Leggins, Doug Leggins and Penny Cobb.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Jean (Terrill) Todd in 1988; second wife, Jo Ann (Miller) Leggins Todd in 2017; 10 brothers and sisters; and a favorite nephew, Rex Todd, who died March 28, 2018.
