HELMSBURG — Fists were bumped, smiles were wide, backpacks were heavy and big hugs were given before the start of the first day of school at Helmsburg Elementary School on Aug. 8.
The tiniest of students walked up holding on to their parents’ hands while the older students checked their cellphones and caught up with friends waiting to catch their shuttle buses to the Nashville schools campus.
Inside the school, backpacks were put away, school supplies were organized and breakfast was eaten as students learned of their first assignments of the school year.
Teachers smiled as they helped students get organized and settled in. Principal Kelli Bruner made her way to each classroom, welcoming all of the students back for another year of learning.
