Aug. 6

Whiteland 179, Brown County 203, Edinburgh 241

Brown Co.: Ashley Masteller 39 (medalist), Taylor Poling 50, Ainslie Winton 57, Allison Stogsdill 57, Abby Padgett 71

Coach’s comments: In their season opener at Timbergate Golf Course, the Eagles split a three-way match, losing to the Whiteland Warriors but defeating the host Edinburgh Lancers. Eagle senior Ashley Masteller claimed medalist honors with a 39, edging out Whiteland’s Bri Harwell by a stroke. Junior Taylor Poling posted the next-best score for the Eagles with a 50. Freshmen Ainslie Winton and Abby Padgett saw their first varsity action, while junior Allison Stogsdill turned in a solid 57. Brown County hosts Brownstown Central and Edgewood Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Salt Creek. On Thursday, Aug. 9, the Eagles will travel to Tameka Woods for a three-way match with Indian Creek and Cloverdale. That is a change in the regular schedule which had the Eagles visiting Eastern Greene that afternoon. The Thunderbirds, however, have not yet been able to field a complete team.

Aug. 7

Brown County 213, Edgewood 214, Brownstown 219

Brown Co.: Ashley Masteller 49 (medalist), Allison Stogsdill 50, Ainslie Winton 55, Taylor Poling 59, Abby Padgett 68

Coach’s comments: In a highly competitive, three-way match on their home course, the Eagles notched wins over Edgewood and Brownstown Central, topping the Mustangs by a single stroke and bettering the Brownstown Braves by six strokes. The Eagles’ No. 1 player, Ashley Masteller, struggled most of the round but still managed to tie for medalist honors with a 49. Junior Allison Stogsdill carded a 50, one stroke behind the medalists, while freshmen Ainslie Winton and junior Taylor Poling contributed to the win with scores of 55 and 59 respectively. Freshman Abby Padgett turned in a 68. The team travels to Tameka Woods Thursday, Aug. 9 to compete in another three-way match with Cloverdale and the host school, Indian Creek.

Aug. 9

Brown County 210, Indian Creek 217, Cloverdale 236

Brown Co.: Ashley Masteller 44 (medalist), Ainslie Winton 54, Taylor Poling 56, Allison Stogsdill 56, Abby Padgett 64

Coach’s comments: The BCHS girls golf team traveled to Tameka Woods to battle Indian Creek and Cloverdale and came home with a couple of wins. Individual medalist honors went to the Eagles’ Ashley Masteller with a 44. Ainslie Winton fired a 54, and Taylor Poling and Allison Stogsdill both carded a 56. Abby Padgett turned in her best score of the young season with a 64.

Aug. 14

Brown County 190, Southwestern 216

Brown Co. (6-1): Ashley Masteller 37 (medalist), Allison Stogsdill 50, Ainslie Winton 51, Taylor Poling 52, Abby Padgett 53

Coach’s comments: Playing on a short but tricky and unfamiliar course, the BCHS varsity girls’ golf team shot its lowest round of the year in a convincing victory over the host Southwestern Spartans. Posting her best score of the season with a two-over-par 37 was senior Ashley Masteller, who garnered medalist honors and led the way for the Eagles. No other Eagle golfer was able to break 50, but no one shot higher than 53. The Eagles’ season record now stands at six wins and one loss.

Aug. 18

Jasper Invitational

Jasper 385, Brown County 441 (fourth)

Brown Co.: Ashley Masteller 90, Allison Stogsdill 114, Ainslie Winton 114, Taylor Poling 123, Abby Padgett 129

Coach’s comments: Competing in their first 18-hole match of the season, the varsity girls golfers finished fourth in the nine-team field at the Jasper Invitational, firing a 441 on the very difficult Buffalo Trace Golf Course. The Jasper Wildcats, host of the event, won the tournament with a 385. Grabbing the fourth-lowest individual score was senior Ashley Masteller who turned in a 90. Masteller handled the front side with a 41 but found the back nine to be more challenging and recorded a 49 on it. Allison Stogsdill and Ainslie Winton both shot a 114, while Taylor Poling and Abby Padgett fired a 123 and 129, respectively. For us to be more competitive and move up from the middle of the pack, we will need to narrow the gap between our first score and our second and third scores. A 24-stroke difference between No. 1 and No. 2 makes the scoring tough. We have girls who are capable, and their best golf is still to be played. The Eagles travel to Deer Creek Golf Course Wednesday, Aug. 22 to compete in a three-way match with Monrovia and South Putnam before setting their sights on the WIC Saturday, Aug. 25 at Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil. That event tees off at 9 a.m.

Aug. 22

Brown County 208, Monrovia 209, South Putnam 215

Brown Co.: Ainslie Winton 50, Ashley Masteller 51, Allison Stogsdill 52, Taylor Poling 55, Abby Padgett 63

Coach’s comments: The BCHS Eagle golfers competed in a three-way match Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Deer Creek Golf Course in Clayton and came home victorious, edging host Monrovia by a stroke and getting by South Putnam by seven strokes. Freshman Ainslie Winton recorded a 50, her best score of the season, to lead the Eagles. The golfers will compete for the WIC crown Saturday, Aug. 25 at Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil. The Eagles hope to improve upon their third place finish last year, and senior Ashley Masteller, a three-time all conference winner, should be in the mix for conference medalist.

No. 1 doubles: Austen Deckard/Eli Sichting (BC) 6-3

Coach’s comments: Another good win for the Eagles tonight. It is always a tough place to play. I thought most of our team played their game tonight. Aaron and Chase continued to improve and lead us to two quick wins, setting the stage for the rest of the team. Josh struggled a little as freshmen can do against an upperclassman, and just dug too big of a hole in the tie break to recover for the win. Our doubles teams played extremely well, especially the No. 2 duo of Spencer and Nolan. Aiden and Noah had a small lapse in the second set but came roaring back in the tie break. I feel we can continue to improve and achieve our goal of playing for the WIC championship. Bedford North Lawrence will be a good test for this team. As we continue through this season, our goal is the best is yet to come, and we continued on that path tonight.

Coach’s comments: The Eagles had a small stumble last night against a very experienced BNL team. Overall I felt we lacked the intensity that we have played with lately. I feel the players also felt this and will make changes for the better.
