Police: Driver who slid was intoxicated

GNAW BONE — A Nashville man is facing alcohol-related charges from a slide off-crash on Nov. 4.

The crash was reported just before 8 p.m. in the 400 block of Dimension Lane. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell reported the driver, Owen Phillips, 19, was wearing clothing covered in dirt when he arrived.

Stargell also reported smelling alcohol on Phillips, that his eyes were red/watery, he had unsteady balance and an “abusive attitude.”

A breath test was not administered, but a chemical test given almost two hours after the crash showed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.25, more than three times the legal limit.

On Nov. 5, four misdemeanors were filed against Phillips including illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a Class C misdemeanor.

Suspicious vehicle call ends in charge

A 23-year-old Brown County woman was issued a summons for possession of marijuana on Nov. 13 after police responded to a suspicious vehicle call on State Road 46 East.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies Joshua Stargell reported that when he pulled in, he saw a dark vehicle stopped in the driveway. When he approached the vehicle, the driver, Carol Ping, rolled her window down, and Stargell smelled marijuana, his report said.

Ping said the “suspicious vehicle” was not her, since she had just pulled in. She told police there was no marijuana in the car, but that she had just smoked some. She gave Stargell her pipe and asked if he wanted her to step out of the vehicle.

She also gave Stargell a marijuana grinder that had a small amount of marijuana inside, and Stargell reported finding a bag between the center console and front passenger seat. In the bag was a plastic container with a partially burnt marijuana cigarette, and another bag with marijuana inside which weighed two grams, including the bag, the affidavit states.

Ping was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Stargell noted that she was cooperative throughout their entire encounter. On Nov. 21, she was charged with a Class B misdemeanor.
