COLUMBUS

Rosetta Adams, 87, of Columbus, passed from this life at 12:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community in Franklin.

Rosie was born Oct. 7, 1931, in Brown County; she was the loving daughter of Alva I. and Alice Deckard Henderson.

Rosie married the love of her life, Ruey, in October 1949. She spent her life as a devoted wife and mother. Her children learned the value and importance of family bonds through her words and actions. She was always there to help, to care for those in need, to fellowship in good times and to support in rough times.

After high school, Rosie was employed in the water department for the city of Columbus. In later years, she worked in the high school cafeteria and for many years worked at Nelson’s Bible Mart.

Rosie was there for the school functions, scouting, 4-H, band and choir activities, church youth groups and sports activities. Frequent gatherings with extended family were the norm, a basic part of family routines.

Rosie was a loyal and faithful member of East Columbus United Methodist Church and served in many ways through the years as a vacation Bible school teacher, youth group leader, member of the women’s group, librarian and trustee. The church family was a vital part of daily life, creating and maintaining lifelong friendships. She enjoyed participating in camping trips and mission trips with her church family.

Rosie loved to garden, growing and preserving food for the family and beautiful flowers for all to enjoy. She was a seamstress and enjoyed needlework, creating beautiful embroidery pieces and quilts for her grandchildren. Feeding the birds brought her joy as she watched the cardinals and finches gather at the feeders while hummingbirds buzzed around the porch. Her flowers provided nectar for the birds and butterflies in her garden. She was a blessing to everyone who knew her and will be missed by many.

Rosie is survived by her children, Kathy (Avo) Vill of West Lafayette, Michael (Debbie) Adams of Conroe, Texas, Susan (Mark) Ketchum of Columbus, Robert (Molly) Adams of St. Louis, Missouri, and Julie (Barry) Clark of Nashville; grandchildren, Vanessa (Brian), Monica (Jeffry), Alex (Angela), Paige, Chad, Dana, Amanda, Alissa, Ryan, Megan, Reilly, Katherine, Patrick, Justin and Cory; great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Annelise, Cassandra, Brendan, Nathaniel, Bennett, Delilah, Andrew, John and Noah; and a large extended family.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ruey, Oct. 31, 2010; granddaughter, Laressa Neff; and siblings, Edna Davis, Otis Henderson, George Henderson, Hezekiah Henderson and Ollen Henderson.

The funeral service was to be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at East Columbus United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Aigner and Allen Henderson officiating.

Family and friends gathered for visitation Feb. 11 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home. Visitation was also to be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Rosie will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
