Driver trapped in truck, flown to hospital

HAMBLEN TWP. — A Brown County man had to be cut of a truck he was driving and flown to the hospital after he crashed on Sweetwater Trail late on Feb. 15.

Jared Stevens, 26, of Nineveh, was driving south in the 9500 block of Sweetwater Trail near Beech Tree Road around 11 p.m. when he crossed the center line and went off the east side of the road before striking a tree, an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Schonfeld states.

Schonfeld reported that Stevens was trapped inside the pickup truck and had to be cut out by firefighters.

After he was freed from the truck, he was flown by a medical helicopter to get treatment for an injury to his knee/lower leg/foot, the report states.

Stevens’ truck was towed. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did deploy.

Schonfeld reported that unsafe speed was one of the contributing circumstances to the crash along with running off the road.
