Rodney Markley

NASHVILLE

Rodney Lee Markley passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019.

He was born Dec. 23, 1955 to parents Betty and Roger Markley. He was the youngest of three children.

His mother; his brother Jeff; and his sister, Patrice passed away in recent years.

He is survived by his son, Evan Markley; his uncle, Ferd Markley (wife, Jo Champion) of Toledo, Ohio; his uncle, Jack Sheffer (wife, Jean) of Little Rock, Arkansas; and ex-wife, Cindy Steele.

He grew up in Portland, Indiana and moved to Nashville with his family at the age of 18. The Markleys managed the Wabash Apartments (now Creekside) for many years.

Rodney played men’s adult/church league basketball for 35 years until he was too heavy to run up and down the court. He enjoyed watching his son play sports from elementary school years through high school. He also enjoyed playing poker or euchre with friends. You could often see him helping out at the History Center parking lot.

Possessions weren’t important to Rod – just family and friends. He didn’t like to talk much, but he could make you smile with his humor. He had a big heart and struggled a long time with addiction and grief.

A celebration of his life will take place in the spring.
