Police blotter for week of June 11

Stop for plate results in arrest

A 41-year-old Bloomington man was arrested in Brown County on a warrant on May 24 and later charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy William Pool helped Sgt. Bill Southerland on a traffic stop in the 2500 block of State Road 135 North. Southerland had made the stop for an expired license plate, the probable cause affidavit states.

Southerland asked a backseat passenger for his name, and when Southerland ran the name through dispatch, it did not show any warrants, the affidavit states. When Pool asked if the man had a warrant, he said he did. He was then placed under arrest and gave police his real name: David Barber.

Southerland ran that name through dispatch and it showed a warrant out of Monroe County. Barber was searched after being arrested and Pool reported finding a clear, glass pipe with burnt marijuana residue inside.

Barber was taken to the Brown County jail. He was charged on May 28 with possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
