Joan graduated from Goshen High School, attended MacMurray College, and went on to graduate from Indiana University with her bachelor of arts in 1949. In her early career she received her license in education and taught high school and elementary classes for several years before her marriage to Carl A. Haab Jr. on Aug. 19, 1951.
Joan was a local artisan entrepreneur starting in Bremen and after moving to Brown County she continued to establish herself within the arts community. Joan was involved in the Brown County Craft Guild, the Brown County Craft Gallery and owned her own weaving shop called the Country Mouse.
Living in Brown County was an integral part of her and her family’s lives where they established a large family farm where her daughters and their families also resided. Joan took joy in her gardening and refining her skills as a weaver. Joan took great pride in participating in the annual Back Roads of Brown County Studio Tour, where she was able to bring the community into her home to see her fiber designs. For many years Joan participated in local and area craft and art shows, where she established many meaningful relationships.
She moved to Four Seasons Retirement Center after the death of her husband where she enjoyed making many new friends and memories. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.
