Club news for week of Nov. 4

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet via Zoom at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.

Phil Stephens, director of the Brown County Solid Waste Management District and the Brown County Recycle Center, will be the guest speaker. Stephens will discuss the changes that have been made due to COVID-19. These include reductions in processing volumes, budget cuts, new equipment and changes in services and methods of delivering these services.

In addition to his work for Brown County Solid Waste and Recycling, Stephens has been Hamblen Township trustee for 10 years as well as a Republican Party precinct official. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course.

Stephens is also the author of “The Altar Boy: A Dark Tale of Comedy, Sorrow and The Catholic Church In The 1960s,” gold medal winner of the 2016 International Publishers Award for Best Contemporary Novel. He is finishing his second novel, “At the Edge of the Stairs,” a paranormal romance that is in final editing.

Those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community are invited to attend the Zoom session. Visit rotaryclubofbrowncounty.org and click “Contact us” to obtain a link.
