GUEST OPINION: Seeking a change? The CRC can help you start

Christy Wrightsman

START now!

This is the start of a new calendar year, which for many is a period of time when reflection on current life and next steps occurs. It is these next steps, as you can imagine, that can cause some anxiety.

In his book, “Anxious for Nothing,” author Max Lucado writes about the anxiety that surrounds our desires to experience something better in life and the next steps required for removing the anxiety associated with simply getting started.

Unfortunately, many people seem to find themselves on the bank of what he calls the “if only” river. He describes how individuals are anxious about making the necessary changes to remove the anxiety and cross into that better life. Instead, we make these “if only” statements. If only my job was more fulfilling. If only I made more money. If only I had finished college. If only I had not dropped out of high school.

If you have ever made one of these “if only” statements, now is your time to cross that metaphorical “if only” river and come to the Career Resource Center of Brown County. Do not make the mistake of saying, “if only I had contacted the CRC to help.”

2021 is your year to take your next step, replace the anxiety with effort, and remove those “if only” statements for good. The CRC offers a place for you to be yourself and start at your preferred starting point. Whatever it is that makes you anxious about taking that next step into post-secondary education, a high school diploma, a better career, a new job, etc., we are here to help you START now.
