Man reports finding intruder in closet

A Nashville man faces a felony after police said he entered the home of a person who has a protective order against him and hid in a closet.

Duran A. Morgan, 22, was charged Feb. 8 with residential entry, a Level 6 felony; invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor; and criminal trespass, a Class A misdemeanor.

Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Upper Schooner Road Jan. 27 for an intruder who fled on foot after being confronted.

A man at the home told deputies three other people live there — including the person with a protective order against Morgan — but they were not home at the time. He told police he was upstairs taking a shower when he heard their dogs barking, meaning someone was at the door or inside the home.

When the man went downstairs, he noticed a bedroom light was on and the door was locked. He entered the room and opened the closet door, and when he reached between the hanging clothing, he felt Morgan’s head, the affidavit said.

The man punched Morgan “a couple of times,” bloodying his mouth before throwing him onto a bed, according to the report. The man attempted to sit Morgan in a chair while he called police, but Morgan continued to swing at him and moved toward the living room, then escaped outside, the report said.

The man showed police a jacket, a hat and a cellphone he said he believed might belong to Morgan. A police dog was unable to detect Morgan’s scent and police were unable to find him.
