Richard ‘Dick’ Schattner

NASHVILLE

Richard L. “Dick” Schattner passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Delight Schattner; four children, Lori (Mark) Rumreich, Lana (Eric) Haug, Lance (Nicole) Schattner and Kristy Schattner; eight grandchildren, Marlow and Laine Rumreich, Erica (Andrew) Petroff, Cody Haug, Lucas and Osborn Schattner, and Ethan and Alex Taylor; one great-grandchild, Milo Petroff; and siblings, Bill Schattner and Jane Shroyer.

He was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Violet Schattner; brother, Bob Schattner; sister, Joan Schattner; daughter, LeighAnn Schattner; and granddaughter, Keri Winningham.

Dick, an Anderson native and Army veteran, worked as a forklift operator and commercial truck driver for the Guide Division of General Motors. He was a proud UAW Local 663 member. Dick enjoyed playing sports, rollerskating, dancing and camping. He was president of the Anderson Sunday School Athletic Association for 14 years and organized neighborhood-wide rummage sales. In retirement, he co-owned a mine-your-own gem shop in Brown County where he kept patrons entertained. Traveling and birdwatching were other favorite hobbies. Dick was a fine storyteller, craftily delivering jokes and tales throughout his 82 years.
