Stop for speeding results in charges

A Brown County man faces two misdemeanors after he was stopped for speeding on April 18 and police found his blood alcohol content to be more than four times the legal limit.

The traffic stop happened just after 6:30 p.m. in the 200 block of South Jefferson Street. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht reported smelling alcohol on Eric B. Smith, 35, of Becks Grove Road. He also reported that his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, his manual dexterity was poor, his balance was unsteady and that his shirt was on backwards, the affidavit said.

A breath test showed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.368, more than four times the legal limit for a driver.

On April 19, Smith was charged with two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
