Pregnant woman taken to hospital after striking guardrail

FRUITDALE — A pregnant Brown County woman was taken to a hospital on June 20 after she struck a guardrail on State Road 135 North and traveled on top of it for about 50 feet.

Jennifer L. Kennett, 34, told police she had just left a church in the 8300 block of 135 North when the children in the back seat of her van started saying they were hungry, according to an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell. Kennett said she started tossing snacks back to them and looked back for a couple of seconds while doing so. She then felt her van strike something in the 8200 block, the report states.

Stargell reported that the van was “center hung” on the guardrail. It had left the west side of the road, struck the guardrail end and traveled on top of it for about 50 feet before stopping, his report said.

Kennett was taken by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital for precautionary reasons due to her being 27 weeks pregnant. Kennett and the four children with her were all wearing seat belts or in car seats, the report states.

The van was towed.
