Police: Woman overdosed, hit EMT

A Nashville woman faces a Level 5 felony after police say she overdosed and then punched an emergency medical worker while they were on their way to the hospital in May.

Amanda Cooper, 38, of Old State Road 46, was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety official on July 18. A warrant was issued for her arrest on Aug. 21 after she failed to appear for her initial hearing. A probable cause affidavit was then released which detailed the reason for the charges.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Magner reported that he met with the EMT on May 13 about the battery that occurred the day before.

The EMT said an ambulance was called to a home in the 200 block of Old State Road 46 for a report of an overdose possibly caused by methamphetamine.

The EMT told Magner that while en route to Columbus Regional Hospital, Cooper got loose from restraints and punched the EMT near her left eye. The incident happened in the 8700 block of State Road 46 East, the affidavit states.

The EMT said the punch caused her to step backward and caused her to have a headache. Her glasses were also struck, but they were not broken.

The EMT stated that Cooper was “combative and agitated toward everyone.” Cooper was returned to her restraints and was transported to the hospital. The EMT requested charges be filed.
