Stogsdill earns multiple athlete-of-the-week honors

Eagle Allison Stogsdill is earning attention statewide for her performance on the girls basketball court.

Last week, Stogsdill, a junior, earned player-of-the-week honors from The Republic (Columbus) newspaper, Bloomington-based radio station B97 and the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Subway.

She also was a nominee for “girls basketball top performer” from the Indianapolis Star, finishing third of 10 nominees with 4.2 percent of the vote.

Stogsdill led the Eagles with 21 points and nine steals in a 53-52 win at Edgewood. She then scored a career-high 28 points in a 55-46 loss at Indian Creek.

Her performance: “I feel pretty good about it. I’m going into the next few games with more confidence, and I feel like my performance also comes from my team. We’ve really been working well together, and we’re meshing really well, and I think that’s helping me a lot.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I wear the same socks, and most of the time before a game, we eat together as a team, and that helps me just relax a little bit.”

Favorite drink: “I only drink water.”

Favorite food: “Italian”

Favorite book: “A Farewell To Arms”

Favorite class: “Science. I like my Biomed classes.”

Role model: “My grandpa (Robert ‘Buck’ Stogsdill). He died years ago, but he was sheriff of Brown County, and he really set an example for me an always gave back to the community and put others before himself.”

Best advice: “Always follow your heart and your dreams. Don’t give up on yourself, and you can always do something if you put your mind to it.”

Athletics goal: “To play basketball in college.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Somewhere where I can help people. In the future, I want to be a doctor, so I’d want go to a country that needs assistance, whether it be a Third World country or something like that.”

Stogsdill averaged 29.5 points in two triumphs for Brown County (7-10). The 5-5 guard scored 33 points with 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals in a 73-36 victory over Crothersville. She followed with 26 points, two rebounds, five assists and six steals as the Eagles outlasted Trinity Lutheran 50-45. In two games, Stogsdill was 22-of-41 from the floor, 8-of-16 from long range and 7-of-11 from the line.
