Police blotter for week of Jan. 29

Stop for speeding results in charge

A Bloomington man faces a misdemeanor in Brown County for possession of marijuana after he was stopped for driving 30 mph over the speed limit.

Nashville Police Chief Ben Seastrom stopped Andre Stevens, 21, on State Road 46 East near Miller Road before 11:30 p.m. Dec. 5, according to a probable cause affidavit. He had clocked Stevens at 80 mph in a 50 mph zone near the north gate of Brown County State Park.

Seastrom reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle. Stevens said that people had been smoking in the vehicle within the last two days. The officer told Stevens he would write him a ticket and not arrest him if he handed the marijuana to him, and it was not a large amount and if Stevens did not have a warrant.

Stevens told him the marijuana was in a small bag in the backseat. Seastrom found it, plus additional marijuana in a container in the center console, his report said.

Seastrom wrote Stevens a ticket for speeding and issued him a summons for possession. He was charged on Jan. 18 with a Class B misdemeanor.
