Water utility seeking approval for rate increase

Brown County Water Utility plans to raise its wholesale water rates by 2 cents per 1,000 gallons, according to a legal notice published in this week’s Marketplace section.

BCWU will file a request on Feb. 8 with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to make this change.

“The changes in the schedule of rates and charges submitted to the commission are based solely upon the change in the cost of water purchased by BCWU from Jackson County Water Utility Inc.,” the legal notice reads. “The rate change shall apply for the next practical consumption period following final approval by the commission.”

All customers of Brown County Water Utility will be subject to this change. That includes most properties that have running water in Brown County, as Nashville Utilities also buys water from BCWU to resell to its customers.

Objections can be made to the secretary of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission or the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor. Contact information for both groups is listed in the legal ad in this week’s Marketplace.
