Michelle Ann Jones

MORGANTOWN

Michelle Ann Jones, 66, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, ending her fight with cancer.

She was born Jan. 11, 1953 in Fort Wayne to David and Maryanne (Epperson) Cordes.

She was a 1971 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School and attended Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, obtaining her license as an LPN.

In 1983, Michelle moved to Morgantown and soon after worked at Henderson’s Nursing Home. Later, she became executive administrator of a land development company, Critter Ridge, and oversaw the building of Trafalgar Square.

In 1993, she opened her children’s antiques shop called Out of the Woods (a name she reused from her furniture stripping business, because she had an excess of those cards). As her shop grew in notoriety through antique magazines around the country, it also grew in Morgantown, becoming a town staple until its sale in 2004.

Michelle served as president of the Morgantown Merchant’s Association from 1998 to 2003, which included organizing and presiding over the town’s Vawter Days festivals.

She enjoyed washing dishes by hand, antiquing, margaritas and soaking in the sunshine while sitting on her deck with a good book.

Michelle loved Jesus, her family, her dog, “Chubbley”, and her little log cabin home.

She was preceded in death by her father, David H. Cordes; brother, John Cordes; sister, Melisa Ratliff.

She is survived by her husband, John E. Jones; daughter, Katrina J. (Timothy) Allen; son, Mark F. Waldron II; mother, Maryanne Cordes; two sisters, Katrina Rogier and Wilhemina Leeuw; and three grandchildren, Nathaniel Bishop, Jax Bishop, and Madigaen.

Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Crescent Advance Christian Ministries, crescentadvance.com/give, or to Community Health Foundation, Attn: Genetic Testing Fund, 7330 Shadeland Station, Suite 150, Indianapolis, IN 46256.
