Coroner: Man died of fentanyl overdose

A 25-year-old man who was found dead in his parents’ home last month died of an accidental fentanyl overdose, said Brown County Coroner Earl Piper.

Police and Piper responded to the home on Andreas Path just after 10 p.m. April 9. The man was found in bed by his father, Piper said.

On May 4, after receiving the results of a toxicology report, Piper was able to confirm that the man died of an overdose.

“The fentanyl was about five or so times greater than the high range that it should have been in,” Piper said.

He said the man had taken the drugs about 24 hours before he died, and that he had likely been dead for about two hours before he was found.

The man had a history of drug use, Piper said. An autopsy showed that nothing was physically wrong with him, ruling out natural causes, and items were found at the scene that pointed to drug use, he said.

This is the first confirmed overdose death this year in Brown County.
