Letter: Concern about ‘veiled threat’ to presidential candidate

To the editor:

This letter is in regards to a letter in the May 27, 2020 Democrat titled “What’s really going on behind the virus hype?

The letter finishes with the statement that when candidate Trump is defeated in the election, “Will Joe Biden take the oath of office from his wheelchair or stretcher?” Candidate Biden can be seen on TV daily either walking or standing. He will have no need for assistance unless something harmful happens to him.

I am asking the Brown County Democrat to not print any letters from the author of the referenced letter nor any writers who make threats, veiled or otherwise, against any candidate be it local, state or national. Our country needs a safe election.

Sincerely,

Ken Birkemeier, Nashville

Editor’s note: I did not interpret that line as a threat. I asked the letter writer to clarify what he meant and this is what he said: “In my sarcastic way, I was inferring that Joe Biden is too physically or mentally infirm to assume and carry out the demanding requirements of the presidency. I’m still bound by my oath of office as a retired naval officer to support and defend the constitution.”
