Hatchett
Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently announced the promotion of Trooper Matthew Hatchett to the position of Detective.
Detective Hatchett will continue to serve the Bloomington District but as a detective with Field Investigations. Detective Hatchett earned this promotion through a competitive selection process.
Detective Hatchett is a 5-year veteran of the Indiana State Police. He is a 2012 graduate of Brown County High School and is currently enrolled at Indiana Tech studying Criminal Justice and is on pace to complete his bachelor’s degree later in 2023. Before being employed with ISP, Hatchett served as an Indiana Capitol Police Officer from 2015 until 2016 when he began a career with Nashville Police Department in Brown County until 2017.
In October 2017, Hatchett graduated from the 77th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and has been assigned to the Bloomington Post since his appointment as a Trooper. During Detective Hatchett’s five years as a Trooper, he has served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Tactical Intervention Platoon (TIP) team member, and most recently has been a member of the Bloomington District Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Section (ACES) with his K-9 partner “Axe”.
Detective Hatchett is also a current member of the Indiana National Guard (INNG) serving as a firefighter. He is a 2021 graduate of the Indianapolis Metro Police Department Leadership Academy. Later that year, Detective Hatchett applied a tourniquet and saved an injured motorcycle driver when he came upon the crash while returning from training with INNG. The Indiana State Police recognized Detective Hatchett with the prestigious “Life Saving Award”.
Detective Hatchett is married and lives in Brown County with his wife Mikenzie and two children.
