Brownie

Hello again, Brown County. Questions are filing in and I’m doing my best to keep up! Your curiosity continues to impress me.

By now you surely know how all of this works. I’m BC, the Brown County Connection – better known as Brownie, your favorite private eye – at least I better be. Think Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe, Miss Marple, Nancy Drew … heck, even Thomas Magnum!

That’s right — I’m on the job and I’m here to answer questions. Your questions.

You ask and Brownie goes straight to the source to find the answer. And then I report, what’s the old saying, just the facts, ma’am. No beating around the bush or fluffing it up with a bunch of reporter lingo. We list the question and the answer.

This weeks’ question comes from Jerry Lee Joergens: What can be done to return passenger train service to Brown County? This could be a way to give visitors and commuters a more environmentally friendly environment. Of course some method of transportation would be necessary from Helmsburg.

I went to County Commissioner Ron Sanders for this one.

“Good idea, just don’t know if it would be profitable for the railroad to invest the kind of money it would take to make it work for them. They are making millions of dollars hauling what they are already doing. It’s a neat idea, just can’t see the railroad doing it. There may come a time that they may do something like this. I would have to know a lot more about this than what I know now to make a suggestion about how to go forward with this.”

There you go Joergens. When it comes to county matters, it doesn’t get any higher than a county commissioner. Well, unless you’re talking money and then it doesn’t get any higher than a county councilperson. But I digress.

What about the rest of you? Got a straight question you want a straight answer to? We all know, I never sleep. If you’ve got one of those burning questions, send it to me in care of [email protected]. I can tell you that some of the officials are getting a little nervous. Maybe they don’t like straight questions?
