Jacqueline “Jacque” (Odom) Cox, age 91 passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, September 9, 2024. She was a resident of Nashville.
Jacque was born June 17, 1933 in Burlington, North Carolina to her parents, the late Clarence “Hugh” and Allie Geneva (Hawks) Odom. She was a 1952 graduate of Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, North Carolina and went on to Burlington Business College. Jacque married Dean Maurice Cox on September 18, 1987 in Bean Blossom. She retired in 1988 as the owner and operator of the Bean Blossom Country Cottage Restaurant in Brown County. Prior to that she worked at Hocutt Church in Burlington, North Carolina as the Church Secretary and for Indiana Bell in Indianapolis.
She was a 35-year member of the Parkview Nazarene Church in Nashville. Jacque enjoyed walking, tending to her yard, shopping and reading. She also enjoyed traveling, working the Polls at election time, as well as, cooking &baking. Jacque will be remembered for her delicious baked beans and lemon pound cake. She loved spending time with her family who she loved dearly, especially her grandchildren.
Jacque is survived by her children, Connie Denise (Bill) VanHuss of Martinsville, Cheryl Lynn Chorney of Maryville, TN, and John (Carole) Robert Simpson of Martinsville; 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Jacque was preceded in death by her first husband, John Robert Simpson; second husband, Dean Maurice Cox; and siblings, Clarence “Buddy” Odom and Betty Lou Reid.
The Rev. Jason Riggle will conduct a funeral service on Saturday 14th at 12 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
