Nashville man commands Camp Atterbury

INDIANAPOLIS — Lt. Col. Carl Farley became the new Camp Atterbury deputy commander May 1.

Farley succeeds Lt. Col. John Silva.

Farley, a Nashville resident, is comptroller for the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office for the Indiana National Guard. He began his military career by enlisting in the Indiana Army National Guard in September 1980. He has served as program and budget officer, company commander, operations officer, resource manager and as commander of the 138th General Studies Battalion, 138th Regimental Training Institute.

“Carl is an exceptional officer,” said Indiana National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger. “His years of experience as a senior budgeting officer will enable him to assist Atterbury-Muscatatuck Center for complex operations as we transition from a mobilization station to a premier regional collective training facility for both active and reserve units.”

Farley served in Afghanistan with the 38th Infantry Division Task Force Cyclone as the director of resource management from July 2009 to July 2010. He has served 33 years in the Indiana Army National Guard.
