Community honors superintendent with song

Music and laughter filled the air as the community gathered to support the Brown County Weekend Backpack Program and honor retiring Brown County Schools Superintendent David Shaffer April 29.

The 2016 Spring Concert honoring retiring Superintendent David Shaffer was hosted by Brown County Weekend Backpacks, Inc. and all proceeds and donations benefited the Brown County Weekend Backpack Program.

The program provides backpacks full of meals for the weekend to qualifying children each Friday during the school year.

The concert featured performances by school corporation employees, local musicians and other community members who performed songs ranging from folk to traditional Zimbabwean to Broadway hits.

Director of Student Services Al Kosinski served as the concert’s emcee and provided some laughter — some at Shaffer’s expense — along the way.

Shaffer will retire at the end of this school year after 44 years in education and serving Brown County Schools for eight years as superintendent.
