Brown County High School is a national silver award-winner for the third time.

In April, U.S. News and World Report included BCHS in the 2016 ranking of best high schools.

The school received silver awards for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years and a bronze medal for 2010-11.

“I think that it just is a great reflection of our staff and students and how they work really hard and strive to do the best they can. It’s nice that we are recognized this way. It’s nice to win it back-to-back years,” Principal Shane Killinger said.

“Of course, we always would like to have gold, but we sure are happy keeping our silver.”

Forty-six silver awards were awarded to Indiana high schools, along with 78 bronze medals and three gold.

Awards are based on academic performance including end-of-course assessment test scores, state test scores and high school student college readiness.

Advanced Placement test participation and performance are also factors in the ranking.

U.S. News calculated the English proficiency of BCHS students at 65 percent — up three percent from last year — and algebra proficiency at 71 percent — down 17 percent since last year.

BCHS ranked 44th out of the 127 Indiana high schools that made the list.

Nationally, BCHS was ranked 2,474th out of 28,561 high schools.

Signature School in Evansville was ranked No. 1 in the state.
