The Brown County Junior High science bowl academic team placed second in its class at a state academic super bowl April 30.

The team scored 19 points in Class 2 of the Purdue University 2016 Science Academic Super Bowl Junior Division. West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School was first with 21 points.

Team members are Drew Jenson, Will Sichting, Cameron Fox and Reid Davis. Teacher Wendy Weddle was their coach.

The team had earned first place in its class and overall at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl Junior Division Area Contest April 30 at Seymour Middle School. The students competed against 17 other area schools.

The science bowl team was the only one from Brown County to make it into the top 10 in its class at the state contest, but it was not the only Brown County Junior High School team to compete at the area contest.

The language arts team finished first in its class at the contest at Seymour. Members are Emma Summers and Nicole Prosch. They were coached by teacher Sarah Cochran.

Interdisciplinary team members were named first in their class and second overall at the area contest.

Aaron Alldredge, a one-person social studies team coached by teacher Michael Potts, won second place in his class.

The math team won second in its class at the area contest. Members are David Tucker, John Oliver and Jordan Watson, who were coached by teacher Bruce Koopman.

Teams met once a week with their coach to practice ahead of the April 30 contest, Weddle said.
