Police believe a driver may have had a medical problem before rear-ending another vehicle on State Road 46 West Monday, Sept. 19.

At around 12:50 p.m., police and emergency personnel were dispatched to the Brown County State Park west gate entrance off State Road 46 West for an accident involving two vehicles.

Sheryl Trick, 68, Powell, Ohio, was stopped facing west and attempting to turn into the park when her vehicle was rear-ended by another SUV driven by Teresa Umbreit, 61, Nashville.

According to an accident report from Indiana State Police Trooper Chris Griggs, Trick’s vehicle came to rest facing east on State Road 46 while Umbreit’s vehicle ended up on the shoulder of the road facing west.

Griggs reported that it is possible Umbreit may have suffered a medical problem before the crash. She was flown to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for internal injuries.

Trick received a head injury and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and then St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital.

Trick’s passenger, Katie L. Morris, 67, Ohio, also sustained a head and neck injury and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital.

All of the women were wearing seat belts.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Police Department and Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
