An early morning traffic stop Feb. 12 on State Road 46 West resulted in charges for two underage drinkers.

Sgt. Bill Southerland stopped 20-year-old Noah P. Killey of Brownstown for driving 61 mph in a 45 mph zone. The officer said Killey smelled of alcohol.

Killey said his female passenger, 20-year-old Elizabeth R. Culkin of Martinsville, also had been drinking, a probable cause affidavit said.

A partially empty bottle of rum and a full bottle of wine were found in the vehicle.

A breath test showed Killey’s blood-alcohol content to be 0.15, over the legal limit of 0.08. He was arrested.

A breath test showed Culkin’s blood-alcohol content at 0.13; she was also arrested.

Culkin was charged Feb. 16 with illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a Class C misdemeanor. Killey was charged with three alcohol-related counts on Feb. 13, all misdemeanors.
