A man who had pulled over to fix a tire was arrested on multiple drug-related charges, and the owner of the vehicle was, too.

Nashville Police Officer Michael Williams saw the blue minivan parked at Speedway while he was on patrol June 21. It had an expired license plate, and when he checked on the registered owner, Kellie J. Smith, 50, he found that she had a suspended license, his report said.

Matthew Goode, 39, was working on the front driver’s tire and Smith was in the passenger’s seat, his report said. Williams asked Goode to empty the contents of his pockets, which included a pipe that Goode called a “meth pipe,” the report said.

Goode also told the officer he had methamphetamine and “Spice,” or synthetic marijuana, in the van, and showed it to him.

Smith told the officer there was nothing else illegal in the vehicle. When two other officers searched it, they reported finding marijuana, a pill bottle containing three different prescription medications and a digital scale with white residue in her purse, the report said.

Under the front driver’s seat, the officers found a syringe partially filled with methamphetamine, the report said.

Goode and Smith were booked into the Brown County jail. Both were listed on court documents as living at the same address in Indianapolis.

They were each charged on June 22 with two felonies, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of methamphetamine; and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

Goode also was charged with possession of a synthetic drug or look-alike substance, a Class A misdemeanor; and an additional felony for having been convicted of syringe possession in 2015.

Smith also was charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
