False reports of gunman at state park circulate on social media

Contrary to reports on social media, there was no gunman at Brown County State Park today.

“There was nobody with an AK47. The information floating around on Facebook is completely inaccurate,” said Kevin Snyder, assistant property manager of the state park.

Snyder said an employee who had worked in the concession area of the pool had “some issues” and that park officials were trying to find him.

According to dispatch traffic, the employee was sending threatening messages to co-workers.

Snyder said the pool was closed a precaution.

Brown County Emergency Management Agency Director Susan Armstrong said the pool closure was very brief, and the park itself was never closed or evacuated.

“There was no threat or anything like that. We didn’t know where this guy was and we wanted to know where he was at, and we just took the option of him coming back (to the pool) away from him,” Snyder said.

The man was found in Franklin. According to dispatch traffic, he was transported to Community South Hospital.

Snyder said that no other park visitors were forced to go into safe zones.
