HELMSBURG — A Bloomington man was arrested in Brown County on Aug. 21 after police say he crashed into another vehicle head-on, injuring the other driver.

Police and emergency personnel responded to the 3000 block of State Road 45 near Indian Hill Road at about 5:45 p.m. Jacob C. Long, 28, told police he was going home to Bloomington, and the unfamiliarity of the road and curve caused him to slide and cross the center line.

He struck a vehicle driven by Kelli M. Snider, 47, of Stinson Road, head-on. She told police she was driving toward Helmsburg when Long’s vehicle came around the curve on her side of the road and struck her.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell reported smelling alcohol on Long and seeing other signs of impairment, an accident report states. Long refused to take a breath test or field sobriety tests. He resisted Sgt. Bill Southerland as police tried to detain him for a search warrant, the report said.

A search warrant was granted, and Long was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw.

While inventorying Long’s vehicle, police discovered a glass smoking pipe, a grinder and a baggie with marijuana inside.

Long was arrested on initial charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.

Both vehicles were towed. Long and Snider were wearing seat belts.

The day after the accident, Snider told police she had a fractured middle finger that will require surgery, bruising from the seat belt and bruising on both of her lower legs, the police report said.
