Driver rear-ended in crash on 46 East

A Franklin woman was treated at the scene of a crash on State Road 46 East after her vehicle was was rear-ended while she was stopped in traffic for bridge construction.

The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. April 18. Joshua D. Wells, 31, of Oak Ridge Road, told police he was on his way home from working a night shift, and he didn’t realize that the vehicle in front of him was stopped, according to an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Williams.

Katherine L. Lewis, 34, was the driver of the vehicle that was hit. She told police she was completely stopped on State Road 46 East near Lonesome Pine Drive, which is on the Gnaw Bone side of the under-construction bridge.

Wells said he slammed on his brakes and attempted to miss Lewis’ vehicle by going to the left, but he was unable to avoid a crash.

Williams noted that there were construction signs leading up to the construction area.

Lewis was treated at the scene by EMS for neck pain. Wells’ vehicle was towed. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
