Club news for week of May 9

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. May 8 at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

Rotary Club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet for breakfast at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, May 10 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn. Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting at 105 S. Van Buren St., especially those interested in helping with an activity or project to serve the community.

Genealogical society

Researching Quaker ancestors will be the topic discussed when the Brown County Genealogical Society meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Brown County Public Library. Those interested in genealogical research of any type and for any location are welcome.

Widowed group

On Saturday, May 12, the Brown County Widowed Group will visit Winton’s Iris Hill, 7131 E. 550 South in Franklin, at 11:30 a.m. Participants can meet at the St. David’s Episcopal Church parking lot in Bean Blossom to depart at 10:45 a.m. or at the Mexican restaurant in Morgantown to be picked up en route.

The group will leave Iris Hill at 12:30 p.m. to have lunch at Southern Comfort in Trafalgar at 1 p.m.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Beekeepers club

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will hold its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, May 14 in one of the meeting rooms on the lower level of the Brown County Public Library in Nashville. Anyone interested in bees or beekeeping is welcome. Individuals interested in starting a beehive are particularly encouraged to attend. Experienced beekeepers are available as mentors.

Dan Twobears will speak on native wildflowers and bees. Details also will be given about Kathleen Prough presenting a hive inspection demonstration at Tony Gaudin’s house on Saturday, May 26.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting will be May 17 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m the third Monday of each month in a lower-level meeting room at the Brown County Public Library. On May 21, David Mow, a volunteer at Brown County State Park and Master Gardener, will talk about medicinal and edible wild herbs. He has started a herbarium collection for the park. The public is welcome.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 p.m. and again at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The public is welcome.
