Area Plan Commission hearing for zoning ordinance amendments

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING OF THE

BROWN COUNTY AREA PLAN COMMISSION

Please take notice that the Brown County Area Plan Commission has scheduled a Public Hearing to be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 6:00 PM in the Meeting Room, Brown County Government Building, 201 Locust Lane, Nashville, Indiana 47448.

The purpose of the hearing shall be to accept public comment on proposed amendments (“Amendments”) to the sign regulations of Chapter 153 (“Zoning Code”) of the Code of Ordinances of the Town of Nashville, Indiana.  The Amendments are generally described and follows:  §153.085 –  purpose statement relates to permanent and temporary signs rather than billboards and posters; §153.086 – repeal definitions of integral sign and off premises – amend definitions of billboard, free standing sign, sign,  and temporary sign – add definitions of height above ground, abandoned sign, permanent sign, and legal non-conforming sign; §153.087 – add statement that signs not expressly permitted are prohibited; §153.088 – identify permitted types and sizes of signs in residential districts; §153.089 – identify types, height, and number of signs permitted in S1 district and add vehicle sign regulations; §153.090 – amend area standard for S2 district; §153.091 – amend area standard for residential buffer district; §153.092 – repeal section on integral signs; §153.093 – incorporates unified development sign; §153.094 – repeal section on billboards and off premises signs; §153.095 – amend provisions relating to duration limits and the placement of temporary signs on public property; and, §153.096 – repeal section on vehicle signs (see new subsection §153.089(I)).

Copies of the Amendments are available for inspection in the Brown County Area Planning Office, Brown County Government Building, 201 Locust Lane, Nashville, Indiana 47448.  Written comments to the Amendments, which are filed with the Secretary of the Area Plan Commission before the hearing, will be considered.  Oral comments concerning the proposed amendments will be heard.  The hearing may be continued from time to time.  Following the hearing, the Brown County Plan Commission may take final action on the Amendments and on any proposed changes to the Amendments. The hearing is open to the public.
