Letter: Local events draw attention to Alzheimer’s Disease

To the editor:

My name is Diane Davern and I am captain of Team Reminisce and a committee planning member for the Columbus Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

I became involved with the association three years ago when my mother and mother-in-law were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Since then, I lost both of these amazing women to the disease, but I will continue to fight to help find an end to disease which steals our memories.

Team Reminisce is hosting our second annual Golf to End Alzheimer’s at Salt Creek Golf Course presented by Waltman Construction on Sunday, Aug. 5. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and a shotgun start at 2 p.m. The cost is $50 per person to play a scramble format. We hope to see you there.

So many of us have been touched by this disease, and I know the hardships this brings to not just the one with the disease, but the whole family.

So, golf may not be your thing, but you can still get involved. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is on Sunday, Sept. 30 at Mill Race Center in Columbus. Registration is at noon, the opening ceremony is at 1:15 p.m., and the walk will begin after the conclusion of the opening ceremony. You can register the day of the event or online at act.alz.org/columbus.
