Letter: Eagle Scout makes orienteering course at park

To the editor:

Brown County Parks and Recreation would like to congratulate John Oliver on the completion of his Eagle Scout project and recognize his efforts in developing and implementing the new orienteering course at Deer Run Park. This new amenity serves as a great educational tool in teaching others how to utilize a compass for orienteering.

I would encourage anyone that’s interested in learning or enhancing their map and compass skills to experience this new course first hand. There’s even a game that can be played while navigating the course. Stop by the parks and rec office and pick up a copy of the instruction sheet on your way in. Don’t have a compass? Not to worry; we also have loaner compasses available for use that Mr. Oliver has provided for the public.

We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication exhibited by Mr. Oliver, and the other Scouts that assisted in constructing this project: Jackson Smith, Parker Scott, Abe Oliver, Timmy Kilburn, Nolan Combest and Logan Miller.

Sincerely,

Mark Shields, director, Brown County Parks and Recreation
