CORDRY-SWEETWATER — Pink, blue or — green?

A couple of Cordry-Sweetwater volunteer firefighters found an unusual way to announce the gender of their baby, using a fire truck and colored foam.

Friends, family and fellow volunteers of Travis and Jessica Hostetler gathered at the fire department on Aug. 3 to learn which kind of new arrival they’re expecting in December: a girl, a boy or a dinosaur.

“Before finding out the gender, when asked what I was having, I replied with, ‘A baby — or maybe a dinosaur. I’m kind of holding out for a dinosaur,'” Jessica said. “So, after month of this reply, we thought it would be funny to include it in the reveal.”

Indeed, green was the first color that shot out of the fire hose they were holding. The dinosaur in the parking lot — 18-year-old big brother Noah in costume — danced with joy.

Then the foam color changed to blue, to more applause and cheers from the crowd.

Travis Hostetler, an iron worker by trade, is an active EMT and firefighter for Cordry-Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department.

Jessica Hostetler, a photographer, is an auxiliary member of the department.

Jessica said that fire Chief Michael Leavitt, Amanda Roller Photography and Eddie’s Lakeview Pizza all helped make the surprise possible.

Baby boy Hostetler, expected on Dec. 10, will be welcomed by two older brothers: Noah, an incoming student at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, and 19-year-old Cassidy or “C.W.,” a student at Ivy Tech in Bloomington. Both are graduates of Brown County High School.
