Letter: Liz Watson ‘will represent our interests’

To the editor:

I have been concerned about being represented by a congressperson who isn’t a real Hoosier. Trey Hollingsworth moved here from Tennessee just before filing to run for Congress, having searched for a district outside his home state where he could win. He beat well-known opponents in the primary using his and his father’s money. His mother lives in Louisville, so he settled just across the river, as close as he could while still residing in Indiana.

He has held no public town halls. He refuses to debate his current opponent, Liz Watson. The only two bills he primarily sponsored support the financial services industry, and include a bill helping payday loan companies. The legislation he supports directly helps him. Forty percent of his current campaign funds come from the financial services industry.

Liz Watson accepts NO corporate contributions. She has received nearly $300,000 from small-dollar donors, compared to $10,000 for Hollingsworth. (This information confirmed by Indianapolis Monthly magazine.)

Liz is a fifth-generation Hoosier. Isn’t it time our Congressperson represents us? With Liz, we will hear from her, she will listen and she will represent our interests, not her own or those of corporate donors.
