Letter: Vote for commissioner candidate Kyle Birkemeier

To the editor:

Now is the time to let your voice be heard as you go to vote for county commissioner. We are suggesting a vote for Kyle Birkemeier would be a vote for someone who would not take your land through the use of eminent domain like the current commissioner, Diana Biddle, has done.

Don’t be fooled, that is exactly what happened to us on June 6, 2017, when we were served papers by a land acquisition person from INDOT representing the Brown County Commissioners. The first statement we read said, “INDOT is acquiring a portion of your property.” We immediately went the next day to Ms. Biddle to ask what was going on. Rather than her answering our questions directly and honestly, we were forced to find the answers to our questions through days, hours, weeks and months of research and attending meetings. We finally found that Ms. Biddle herself had traveled to Clay County several years earlier to act as an agent with the Department of Natural Resources to acquire a huge, two-lane bridge to be dropped 120 feet from our dining room window. Mind you, we knew nothing of this plan until we were handed the paperwork that said our land would be taken.

Kyle Birkemeier has the skills and experience to make decisions that will be transparent and benefit all Brown Countians. He will work to demonstrate fiscal planning and analytic skills that will help to dig us out of debt that has been piling up under the current lack of planning by Ms. Biddle.

We know that no one wants their land taken, nor their taxes raised without a benefit to them. Your vote for Kyle will give a new fresh approach to county government.

Do not let your land be taken! Vote for Kyle!

Gary and Sheila Oliver, Brown County
