Judith Stewart

INDIANAPOLIS — Brown Circuit Court Judge Judith A. Stewart was honored for 24 years of service on the bench. She was one of 11 judicial officers recognized by Chief Justice Loretta Rush for length of service at an annual judicial conference. A judge receiving this certificate has likely been elected more than four times.

Samuel Bowman

EVANSTON, Illinois — Brown County High School senior Samuel A. Bowman is a semifinalist in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Bowman’s tentative college major is computer and information sciences and support services.

From the approximately 16,000 semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the finalist level, and in February they will be notified.

Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Michael Potts

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Bar Foundation has a newly elected board of directors that includes Brown County Junior High School teacher Michael Potts of Nashville.

Potts is the third teacher to be elected to the board since 2016. He teaches “We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution” to eighth-grade students. His classes have won the state competition six years in a row and the program’s national invitational in 2012 and 2013.

The IBF operates multiple education programs in civics, including its signature program We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution, and seeks to increase civil legal representation for Hoosiers who cannot afford a private attorney.

Paul Brewster

Paul L. Brewster Sr. is the new interim pastor for Raising Hope Baptist Church, 1267 Old State Road 46.

Brewster received his doctorate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina.

An ordained Southern Baptist minister, Brewster has more than 24 years of experience as full-time senior pastor. He has led churches in Arkansas, North Carolina and Indiana, carried leadership positions in the state Baptist convention and trained pastors in the mission field.

Currently, he serves as assistant professor of religion at Liberty University online. He is also a published author and occasional contributor to Baptist Press.

Briana Marcosson

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Briana Marcosson of Nashville was named to the Bryant University dean’s list for spring 2018 semester. She is in the class of 2020.
