Letter: Thanks to community foundation for grant

To the editor:

Keep Brown County Beautiful Inc. (KBCB) wishes to recognize and thank the Brown County Community Foundation for awarding KBCB $4,000 to be used exclusively to clean litter from our roads. We appreciate the foundation’s support for our litter pick-up project and its confidence in our work. The Brown County Community Foundation has generously partnered with us in this project for the past seven years.

Litter continues to be a persistent problem in Brown County. This fall our crew has worked on both state roads 135 North and 46 West and various county roads. Over 10 days, a crew of three or four workers picked up 397 bags of trash from the roads. According to our parent organization, Keep America Beautiful, 397 bags of trash equates to 8.9 tons of trash, an enormous quantity by any measure. Our work continues to average over six bags of trash per mile of road, both sides. We could not have accomplished this without the support of the Brown County Community Foundation.

The mission of Keep Brown County Beautiful is to educate, to increase recycling and end littering in our community, and to beautify our environment. If you wish to help with our efforts or learn more, please e-mail us at [email protected]; write to us at KBCB Inc., P.O. Box 115, Nashville, IN 47448. Or you can call the recycle office at 988-0140. And please, like us on Facebook.
