Art Alliance offers artist networking
The Art Alliance of Brown County will meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at the Brown County Community Foundation, 209 N. Van Buren St. Attending artists should bring a finger food to share. A short meeting to network and socialize will be conducted to welcome spring.
The alliance is a social networking club focused on encouraging, supporting and growing the arts locally, sharing recent artwork and awards. The group is open to all area artists, including musicians, poets, those in theater, and those who create textiles and two- and three-dimensional art. Meetings are every other month.

SEYMOUR — During April, Brown County muralist M.K. Watkins will have more than 20 paintings on display at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, 2001 N. Ewing St.
Watkins was commissioned by the Indiana State Museum to paint a 20-foot backdrop for the children’s train during Christmas. She was an instructor at J. Everett Light Adult Education Career Center in Indianapolis and the Anderson Center for the Arts. She is a teaching artist at a variety of places and is part of the Back Roads of Brown County Studio Tour in October. Her works can be found throughout central Indiana.
Meet other weavers, spinners at library event
The next Weave-in, Spin-in at the Brown County Public Library will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 20. Teens and adults are welcome to bring looms, spindles and wheels, share projects and ideas and ask questions. Experts and beginners are welcome. No registration is needed. Wine and Canvas coming to Rawhide Ranch
CAMP ROBERTS — From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, Rawhide Ranch will host its first Wine and Canvas painting event at 1292 State Road 135 South.

Jewelry, wood art featured at gallery this month
The Hoosier Artist Gallery, 45 S. Jefferson Ave., is featuring works by jeweler Elizabeth Parrock and woodturner Max Monts during April. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily or by appointment. It will be closed Easter Sunday.
Parrock creates Native American off-loom weaving techniques in beaded jewelry, works with precious metal clay, fine silver, bronze and copper. Her designs reflect ties to nature.
Monts teaches woodturning at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Franklin and at the Blue Heron Woodworking School in Bloomington. He creates functional and decorative wood art.

Gallery hosts photo exhibit ‘Journey to Cuba’
A photo exhibit, “Journey to Cuba” will be open daily during regular business hours, Tuesday, April 23 through Monday, May 27 at B3 Gallery, 61 W. Main St.
“Journey to Cuba” is a photo documentary and commentary by local photographers Jessica and Sharon Bussert. An artist reception will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 at the gallery and will include refreshments and live music.

Local artist will conduct painting demonstrations
As part of the Wildflower Foray celebration, local artist Patricia Rhoden-Bartels will conduct painting demonstrations Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28. The demonstrations are part of Arts In The Parks supported by The Indiana Art Council and Indiana DNR.
On Saturday, Rhoden-Bartels will conduct a sunset painting demonstration at 5 p.m. at Brown County State Park’s Hesitation Point. Set-up will begin at 4 p.m. Naturalist David Mow will provide environmental dialog; the park entrance fee will apply.
On Sunday, Rhoden-Bartels will demonstrate plein air painting at 2 p.m. at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site in Belmont. Follow signs from State Road 46 West.
Learn to paint watercolor flowers at library
CORDRY-SWEETWATER — The Cordry-Sweetwater Branch Library will offer a free workshop on painting watercolor flowers from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

Monthly Village Art Walk begins April 26
The Fourth Friday Village Art Walk will run from 4 to 7 p.m. April 26 and on other fourth Fridays through October.
Many galleries will have artists on hand, serve refreshments and offer live music. All venues are within walking distance downtown.
Eighteen galleries and shops will participate: Hoosier Artist, Hershome Studio, The Emerald Pencil, B3 Gallery, Ascension Gallery, Bateman Studio, the Brown County Art Guild, Homes on a Limb/Little Sister Candle Company, Reliable Vintage, Spears Gallery, Brown County Craft Gallery and a group of seven Antique Alley shops/galleries.
Photos, poetry combine for National Poetry month
Local artist Michele Pollock will present a free program, “The Art of Looking,” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at the Brown County Public Library. To mark National Poetry month, Pollock will show photographs taken in Brown County and will read her corresponding poetry.
Flamenco concert, dinner, lessons set at church
BEAN BLOSSOM — A flamenco trio, dancer Leticia Arvena, singer Patricia Ortega and Spanish guitar player David Chiriboga, will perform at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 28 at St. David’s Episcopal Church. A reception will follow at the church, at state roads 45 and 135 North. While the concert is free, donations are welcome.
Prior to the concert, Aravena will lead flamenco dance lessons and Chiriboga will teach beginning flamenco guitar at 4 p.m. A traditional Spanish paella dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. for a suggested donation of $10 per person. To attend the dinner, RSVP to [email protected].
Benefit concert to honor school retirees
A concert to honor Brown County teachers and staff will start at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3 in the Brown County High School auditorium. This year’s concert will honor retiring and retired teachers and staff, especially Coral Hamlin, Brown County Junior High School librarian, and Ed Santos, president of the partnership committee for Brown County Intermediate School; both have died over the past year.
The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome to help raise funds for children and community. The event is hosted by the Parent-Teacher Organization Council, a network of all PTOs in Brown County Schools.
A dinner donated by local businesses for teachers, staff and their families will start at 4 p.m. in the high school cafeteria; this year, the public is also welcome. Local businesses also have donated gift certificates as free raffle awards for teachers and staff.
The idea of the concert was originally inherited from the Weekend Backpacks program to honor then-retiring Superintendent David Shaffer in 2016.

Local artist offering new series of classes
Local artist Anabel Hopkins has started “Pour ’n More,” a series of art classes centered on the popular technique of fluid acrylic pouring. This is a brushless form of abstract painting in which beginners can create beautiful, colorful paintings on canvas, tiles and many other surfaces.
Hopkins has been teaching the technique in Bloomington and at special events and is preparing to offer monthly scheduled classes in Nashville at Chateau Thomas Winery in Coachlight Square. She will teach from 1 to 3 p.m. each first Saturday of May through September, starting May 4.
All materials and snacks will be provided and beverages will be available for purchase at the winery. The cost of the class is $40, payable in advance. Reservations are required and class size is limited.

Brown County Inn hosting storytelling nights
The Brown County Radio Hour, in collaboration with the Nashville Arts & Entertainment Commission and the Brown County Inn, will present a Story Slam series on the second Thursday of May and June.
Each story must be true as the teller remembers it, about themselves, told without notes in front of the audience, and be 5 minutes or less in length.
The event will be recorded and presented as a podcast on the Brown County Radio Hour and the winner will have his or her story featured on an episode of the Brown County Hour on WFHB.
The next event will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9. The story topic is “The ‘morel’ of the story.”
Final date and topic is Thursday, June 13, “The Liar’s Bench.”

Historic site will host writing workshops in May
BELMONT — Heather Winslow LeFebvre will conduct “Nature Journaling in the Footsteps of T.C. Steele” two Saturdays in May at T.C. Steele State Historic Site, 4220 T.C. Steele Road.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the May 11 program will be for children ages 8 to 12.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the May 18 program will be for people 13 and older. The events are funded by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission as part of Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites for 2019.
Paint’N Party planned May 18
The Brown County Winery, 4520 State Road 46 East, will feature a guided painting session with Dee Manzenberger at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18.

Learn to sketch native plants at state park
Rachel Johnson will lead a program, “Sketching Indiana Native Plants,” at Brown County State Park on a series of Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 25, June 22, July 27, Aug. 24 and Sept. 28.

Art guild opens three new spring exhibits
Three new exhibits are open at the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St. They are all on display through Sunday, May 26.
“Nascence, A Beginning,” in the main and upper galleries, features new works for sale by guild member artists.
“Portrait & Figurative” in the special exhibition gallery includes works by member artists.
“Portrait & Figurative” in the loft gallery contains a new display of rare works from the guild permanent collection.

Harp program planned at public library
Two guest harpists from the Jacob School of Music will demonstrate the capabilities and intricacies of two concert grand harps at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Brown County Public Library. They will also talk about the history of harps.

Register for two-day mixed media workshop in July
BELMONT — Dixie Air Arts in the Parks workshop will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21 at T.C. Steele State Historic Site.
The workshop is two days of mixed media work inspired by a hike in the woods. Participants attend both sessions to work on one piece of art. Shared art studio space available in town
B3 Gallery has created a space for artists and the community to come together.
S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space” is on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.
S3 can provide painting and drawing easels, an alternative process darkroom, macro photography equipment, a digital projector, a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln, PCB etching equipment and tanks, leaded glass tools, metal forming and casting tools, electronics and robotics fabrication tools, various computer numerical control tools, a scroll saw, band saw, drill press, centrifuge, bench grinder/polisher, laser cutter/engraver, air compressor, vacuum pumps and chemistry vent hood.
The organizers seek “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space.”
