Letter: Reader sharing warm remembrances of Walker

To the editor:

I was saddened to hear of the death of Carol Walker. Long-term residents knew her as an exceptional educator, school superintendent, teacher, family and child advocate during difficult times for many years. But I would like to comment on the person behind the impressive public reputation.

We met after her retirement at a church we both loved. As my elderly mother slipped away, Carol provided the kind of maternal affection and wisdom that my Mom could no longer give. Just yesterday, a neighbor at the YMCA mentioned that Carol was a frequent volunteer at community events, in spite of her difficulty with mobility later in life. Quite simply, she was a loving, giving woman who will be sincerely missed. Even heaven will be a better place for her presence.
