Letter: Mark calendars for Septic Summit in September

To the editor:

Most everyone has a septic story! Many of those stories were shared during the Brown County Fair. If you were one of the many area residents who walked through the commercial building, you may have stopped by our display about the upcoming Septic Summit and looked at the maps and brochures. There were also handouts at the League of Women Voters, Soil and Water Conservation District, Republicans’ and Democrats’ fair booths.

Thank you for stopping and talking about septic systems. It’s a topic that is a bit messy, but involves everyone!

For those who were unable to attend the fair or missed my booth, we are planning to hold a Septic Summit on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the fairgrounds. Save the date for this big event. The program will feature an equipment show and a panel discussion.

The equipment show will include septic pumper trucks, various septic tanks, lift pumps and control systems, and demonstrations of other technologies for treating household wastewater.

The panel discussion will have representatives from agencies that regulate residential wastewater treatment, including the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and the Brown County Health Department (BCHD). These representatives will be available to answer questions about existing septic systems and about new installations.

There will also be representatives from the septic equipment and service industries. Experts will discuss how septic systems are designed and installed to work properly and safely. If you own a septic system, this information may save you headaches and money.

Several organizations in the county are working to make the Septic Summit informative, interesting and enjoyable. Thanks to the Brown County League of Women Voters, the Brown County Health Department, the Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and the Brown County Regional Sewer District for your efforts.

The Septic Summit will be held Tuesday evening, Sept. 3, 2019 at the 4-H fairgrounds. The equipment show will be open from 5 to 6 p.m. The expert panel discussion and audience question-and-answer session will begin at 6 p.m. until about 8 p.m. at the latest. Food, prizes and a very informative evening is planned.

Mark your calendars and join us for this important discussion. In addition, look for future articles in the Brown County Democrat providing up-to-the-minute details about the Septic Summit.

Special thanks goes out to the Brown County Fair Board for a very successful 2019 county fair.
